In the few hackerspaces I've visited, both pure makers and ideological makers seem to work alongside pretty well; Ultimately, despite differences in motivations, the results remain the same. Its inevitable that as more people spend their nights with hackers that they'll notice a different set of motivations from the people they spend their days at work with who talk about buying $latestiPhoneOrEquivalent. That contrast will highlight the different ideals at play. Some might end up feeling more inclined to promote a more hacker/maker mentality, but at the end of the night, that ends up being so by building/breaking something, just as pure makers would.
